Back from New Orleans

Posted by kaolla at 07:30 PM on March 31, 2004.

It was really boring and uneventful.

Not to mention the city is just awful. Everything is dirty, all the plants are overgrown, and it has a really southern feel to it that I really hate. It's kinda like going down the ugly side of Manchester with more stores for a long long time and the best street I've seen looks like St. Charles Rock Road, not exactly Forsyth in Clayton if you know what I mean.
The school is really ... eh. I know it's supposed to be all good and whatever but they use the 75=F grading system. That's alright b/c I don't get C's but I do get A- which are considered B's in that school.
Not quite so fair.
The houses there SUCK. It's kinda weird, like a really long rectangle that streches back. Provided I get into the good school (Benjamin Franklin (whom I doubt ever loved Louisisana)) we have to move into the Orleans Parish (parish? yes, they also use the Napoleonic Code and most people are Catholic, and there's only 1 abortion clinic in the Orleans Parish, not that I need one .. but still) which has the most expensive housing ever considering the condition of those roads.
There are potholes everywhere. Oh, and their airport is ugly and worse than Lambert, which is really surprising considering the reputation of New Orleans. The only good thing about that city was when I was indoors and forgot about how ugly it was. I also saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and it was very very good. I like Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, although I haven't seen one of her movies in a very long time. My dad didn't get it too well, and all he said after it was over was,
"So I had to accompany you because it was rated R, but I don't see how it constitues an R rating...."
I'm glad to be back. Saw Alyssa at the airport, haha, and she was yelling at her little brother (or it could've been her sister). It's amazing how many people leave during Spring Break. Also saw Youn giving her cello to the baggage people who were looking at it for about 5 minutes wondering what to do.
Yes, St. Louis sucks, but New Orleans is just plain terrible. I hope that if I really have to move it's to Long Island. Fuck the fact that we can't buy a house cause they're all over 600,000 bucks. I want to live someplace ORGANIZED and not overgrown with shrubbery and swamps.
For the rest of Spring break.. movie tomorrow, possibly.

Earlier..

So I arrived at New Olreans yesterday.

I got up at 6:30 (the pain) and went to Lambert, lucky me, 2 hours early. But I saw a lot of people from school there, including Babe and Zoe, Jared, Sarah Tisdale (riding the same plane I was -_-) and some slutty girls that I didn't know the names of giggling together in the bathroom.

Plane ride was boring, etc, arrived at New Orleans around 2:00 to a horrible surprise.

Yatta! NO SOUND ON MY DAD'S COMPUTER! Yea Karen guess vat? I watched 6 eps of Ayashi no Ceres with no sound. If I had known this I would've just watched it all the night before on my own computer. And now I'm on a library computer that doesn't let me download DivX, great.

This city.. is terrible. I'm not just saying that because I'm moving here, it's really really bad. Everything this dirty and gross and it all has a really southern feeling. Grossness. We're going to go look at houses tomorrow. Speaking of which, what the fuck is up with this place. They'll have really nice houses for a few yards then the crap of all crap houses right after that. There's no such thing as a 'nice' neighborhood unless you buy a lakeside house for $1 million. Oh yea, that's us. No.

I took the Iowa test today to get into that stupid school. The geometry teacher who administered the test was a huge slow fat guy who honestly did not really know what he was doing. The school has a lot of math trophies, but no debate ones. I'm suspicious. Honestly I cannot believe I'm moving to this crap city. It's so bad, and once again, NO EXAGGERATION. I have never seen a more ugly 'big' city. Everything is watered down, the people drive so slowly it's insane and they don't flash lights when the turn into a different lane. There's no reason for me to go downtown, either. I HATE IT. Moving is really not the end of the world, but moving to this city is just insane. The more I think about it the more depressed I get, and I'm just bored overall.

There's nothing to do, and I'm missing Worlds for Figure Skating. Go Figure.

That was painful. I'm streaming internet from the internet and on mangasync. I call myself deprived in most areas, including social interaction. I don't think I've talked to anyone I know since the airport (outside family). How sad is that.

21 Grams

Posted by kaolla at 01:13 PM on April 3, 2004.

Yesterday I rented 21 Grams and watched it. Very very good movie, I like Sean Penn. Didn't really like Benicio Del Toro in that movie though. He did a nice job acting but did not use his older man sexahyness very much (I know the role didn't need him to, but ..).
Spring Break is almost over, bah, I haven't done any electrostatic stuff but that's because uh.. I'm lazy and we'll go over it in class, right?
I have to redo my stupid history paper... think about moving... think more about moving.. eat.. read manga.. download manga... wish for DSL but realize that I'd only get it if I move...

Anyway, I changed the layout. Figured the green was getting a little old, but if you disagree, please feel free to tell me to change it or go back to the old one. Hehe.

Teacher Sympathy

Posted by kaolla at 08:17 PM on April 6, 2004.

My piano lesson really didn't go that badly. Huh, I guess she was glad I didn't play shitty there after all.
At least Rui is coming over tomorrow, and I have to the arts fair which I am seriously regretting signing up for, but there's nothing else to do on Thursday... is anyone doing anything?
So bored, but oh well. Actually today in spanish I said I was moving and the teacher got all depressed and hugged me and held me back after class to talk to me and even my history teacher did it.

You get so much more sympathy sometimes for the dumbest things. No wonder people commit suicide. (Err- not that I will.)

John Keats

Posted by kaolla at 04:15 PM on April 11, 2004.

Writing my critique on John Keats. His poetry is very good, but this is single handedly the most boring paper I've written all year. I don't know how to write poetry critiques and I've been holding the book open with my elbow as I type the stanzas. It isn't fun.
Last night had an interesting discussion with Karen about a girl she knew who got into 14 good colleges. But then it's about 700 worth of applications. Day-yum. That's about 12 video games. (yes I'm a dork.)

Today is Easter, doesn't mean anything to me, although Passover and Easter.. same day. Ohoho.. ::choke:: Don't non religious fuckers like me care? No, not quite.

I was gonna go to Blockbuster and rent Kill Bill but I have to finish this stupid paper first.

I think I'm not gonna make it there today. Damn.

Which Sailor Scout are you?

No New York

Posted by kaolla at 09:17 PM on April 12, 2004.

Apparently my dad did NOT get the job in New York, all the positions were full. Therefore....
It looks like New Orleans or Bust.
I hate this so much. Why does life have to send me to New Orleans? Everything here is fine.

On top of everything, I found out that this kid who looks like Vanilla Ice is gonna be moving to Clayton next year because his family won $4 Million IN THE LOTTERY.

He looks like some country hick. No wonder he's family friends w/ the guy whose dad is a stoner.

How much I could use $4 mil right now to not move and have no troubles (at least less troubles).

Damn it.

Penguin Brothers

Posted by kaolla at 09:28 PM on April 18, 2004.

I've been obsessed with this lately. It's at www.mangadownloads.org but those are down right now and I'm getting them off irc. Whoo hoo.

Anyway, I went to dinner with my parents and their friends, it was uneventful, but I saw a really hot guy there. He was with his girlfriend who was Mandarin but I couldn't tell if he was Japanese or Chinese b/c he looked Japanese but you never know....

Either way, he was really hot. And he was tall. Oh well.....

Hmm Sophia and I finished the Flatland project. Twas... uh... well the title took a while, but other than that it was fine.

Yesterday went to Six Flags with Karen and Brittany and folk. Very very fun, although I kind of got a cold from being overheated. Not a very good sign if I'm moving down south.

Went on a bunch of rides.. very fun... and Arima... XDXDXD

It's been so long since I had a lot of fun it's scary. And it's even worse to think it might be the last time I do in St. Louis. ::Sigh::

Sorry Karen, but I think the lead singer in Jars of Clay could lose some girth, if you know what I mean. There was this disturbing fat guy sitting behind me and Brittany who kept trying to look at our demented hangman game.

Very fun. Although Six Flags always seems to signify the end of something for me every time I go. I hope I break that mold.

Ow.

Open houses

Posted by kaolla at 10:58 AM on April 24, 2004.

My dad left this morning, and I had this feeling that of course, this would be the last time my family is inside my house before July, when everything would be packed and we'd be moving. V. depressing feeling. Then he informed me that there would be an open house soon so I should clean up or something.

I bought Age of Empires Dawn o/the Modern World.

It was either that or railroad tycoon, we'll see if I made the right choice, I suppose.

I feel so terrible, and I have a piano competition tomorrow. Argh...

Master!
You are a MASTER of the English language!

While your English is not exactly perfect,
you are still more grammatically correct than
just about every American. Still, there is
always room for improvement...

How grammatically sound are you?

What's in a name?

Posted by kaolla at 01:45 PM on April 26, 2004.

The New California Governor has just announced
an agreement whereby English will be the
official language of the state, rather than
German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, The Terminator's
Government conceded that English spelling had
some room for improvement and has accepted a
5-year phase-in plan that would become known
as "Austro-English" (or, perhaps even better,
"Austrionics".)

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft
"c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil
servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be
dropped in favour of the "k". This should
klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one
less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in
the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will
be replaced with the "f". This will make
words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the
new spelling kan be expekted to reach the
stage where more komplikated changes are
possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of
double letters which have always ben a
deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil
agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e"
in the languag is disgrasful and it should go
away.

By the 4th yer peopl wil be reseptiv to
steps such as
replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be
dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz
fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten
styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and
evrivun vil find
it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a
united urop vil finali kum tru.

If zis mad yu smil, pleas pas it on to oza
pepl.

I analzyed my name at this website and here is what I got.

Financial gains and status are important elements in your life. You want to do things in your own way and on your own terms. You are soft-hearted with a charitable nature. You can be quite inventive and quite curious.
You don't fair well under inharmonious conditions. You are very peace loving. You can get very upset when you are frustrated. You have much enthusiasm with a driving attitude toward achievement in life. You can handle details well. You have a methodical mind. You are a hard worker when you make up your mind to do a job.

The things in bold I think are false. Honestly, how can you name give off energy rays?
Life is really bad. I really really really do not want to move. But what can I do except go with the flow? The thing is I'm gonna have such a hard time getting into college because I won't be yearbook editor or debate president. Do you know how good that looks?
Argh....

I have a bad feeling.

Posted by kaolla at 04:07 PM on April 30, 2004.

I had a really bad feeling in my stomach the whole day. Like the end of the year. I know it's supposed to be a good time, but I feel so bad. I'm moving, and it really felt like a taste of what the last day of school was gonna be like today, because of the whether and how empty everything seemed to look.
It was kind of hazy at first, and then everything was kinda blurry, especially when I went to eat lunch. Rebecca didn't show up, she got sick and went home. So I sat with Constance for the first time in a long long time. She told me a terrible story about Jared which pretty much made my day really.. O_O. I felt so bad... I've never really heard stories like that in real life before. Life is so shitty. And then I realized many people have no shame about these things to actually tell her that, and for her to tell me. ::sigh::

Physics... it felt like the end of year. Ms Sing's last day was today so we threw a party and didn't do anything. I guess it makes up for not going to Six Flags because our school is too low rent (or too much curriculm). But then I had to leave early for the math lecture on the mobius strip. Which was actually pretty good. Kill me now.

Is it true when they say love's better when you're not looking for it? I haven't been looking all year. Come on.... not that it'll do any good now, but honestly... what a load of bullshit.

Here's to a better life for everyone next year. Even those of us that are screwed.
